How Long Does it Take to File For Tax-Exempt Status?

The second part of the process can be daunting and the amount of time it will take if you are attempting to file it yourself will depend on:

● Which form(s) you’re filing (some organizations qualify for the expedited review process while others require the long review process);

● How fast you are able to research the state and federal laws to make sure you’re in compliance;

● The time it takes to prepare all of the ancillary documents, addendum, budget, etc. that are required based on your form;

The good news is that you do not have to figure all of this out on your own. There are firms like mine that offer a turnkey package that takes care of the entire nonprofit formation process from start to finish for our clients. We like to give ourselves at least two weeks to get the paperwork together for our clients. Once we have filed everything, it can take the I.R.S. between 2 months to 12 months to render their determination.

My law firm also offers free Nonprofit Consultations (Value: $450) in which we hear about your nonprofit goals and how we can help you make them a reality. Visit www.StartYourTaxExemptNonprofit.com to learn more.
